Aquatic Life
From clear mountain streams to muddy tropical swamps, from small, shallow ponds to vast, deep seas, the waters of the world teem with a wondrous variety of creatures. The oceans alone contain more than 13,000 kinds offish. Another 8,400 fish species live in fresh water, and a select few —salmon and eels, for example—are able to commute between the two environments. The realm of water inhabitants also includes molluscs, such as clams and snails, crustaceans, such as crabs and lobsters, and a rich array of mammals, reptiles, and birds.
