Machines and Invention
What drives inventors is the need to spare effort and to make things work better. People have always tried to improve their lives, first with basic inventions—making fire, simple tools, the wheel—then with more complex machines. Our world benefits from these inventions and the influence of thousands of technological advances, great and small. A few inventions were so dramatic in their impact that, in themselves, they changed the course of history.
